Welcome to the July 5th, 2007
edition of Our Hudson Valley Network News!

Item #1: We Are Hiring! Our Hudson Valley Network is looking for experienced, skilled salespeople to sell advertising and related products to locally-owned businesses in the mid-Hudson Valley. We'll be starting to reach out to businesses in July, and you can be part of our growing and enthusiastic team. We have appealing products and a compensation package that includes possible equity participation). It's a ground-floor opportunity to join a trailblazing social enterprise with great potential. To learn more, please write me at carl@ourhudsonvalley.net.

Item #2: Live Large with Live Earth! This Saturday a truly momentous event is taking place: Live Earth, the global concert to raise awareness about climate change. Though this is Al Gore's baby, it goes way beyond politics. Live Earth events will be taking place in Woodstock and in Kingston. They're a great way to have a good ol' community time--and to help shift the global energy around this issue, which is definitely the most important environmental issue of our time, and arguably the most important issue of our time, period.

Item #3: Our Money Giveaway. Last week, I told you that we'd be announcing the winners of our $500 giveaway in this week's newsletter. Well, welcome to Groundhog Day! Ahem: we'll be announcing the winners of our $500 giveaway in next week's newsletter. Some communications among the judges, the winners, and their nominators are required that haven't quite been completed yet.

I will share this interesting tidbit, though. Through our partner, the WKNY local radio show Free Range Thought, a sponsor has stepped forward to provide a fourth prize. We're delighted this happened, especially since the impulse behind this initiative was to see if we could create some local "generosity momentum." When we announce the winners, it's our hope that members of the community will step forward and sweeten the pot some with donations of their own. A "meme" is a cultural gene, an idea or mood that sweeps a community. Let's see if we can light a generosity meme in the Hudson Valley!

To learn more about the story behind our "generosity capitalism" offering, see my May 27th blog entry.

Item #4: Our Musical Fare of the Week. This week's featured local musician is Victorio Roland Mousaa. Roland is a Native American soulful folk/rock singer with a powerful spiritual message. The New York Times has written, "Mr. Mousaa, an American Indian (Apache) from Colorado, sang his own songs of the land and the people, songs that, at their best, mingled a Whitmanesque vision along with a Woody Guthrie simplicity." He has played onstage with Buffy Saint-Marie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Richie Havens, among others. Click here to listen to Indian Prayer.

Our Hudson Valley Network: The Power of Us Together

Legal Notice

This is a community list. We do our best to police it but don't have the capacity to control the outcomes of transactions. The Internet is full of scammers and they can even come to Carl's List. Local commerce happens through our auspices and while 99.9% of these transactions are happy experiences for all the parties, the occasional problem does arise. We cannot and do not take responsibility when something goes awry. At the end of the day, Carl's List users must look after themselves. To put this in legal terms: you agree to hold us free and clear of any possible liability for losses incurred as a result of a transaction that you came to through Carl's List.

That said, if a Carl's List post puts you in relationship with a person who proves to be difficult or dishonest, we do want to know about it! There are things we can do, like striking the person from our list.

Thanks,

PS. Posts run one time only in this newsletter. To have a notice listed in this newsletter, simply post it on ourhudsonvalley.net. We'll take care of the rest-and remember, it will run only once!
